How We Developed Our SWOT Analysis

The Arizona Forensic Nurse Alliance didn’t build its direction in a vacuum.

We developed our SWOT analysis as a way to take an honest, structured look at where we are, what we bring to the table, and what our community actually needs.

This process was informed by three core pillars:

  • Lived experience from forensic nurses across Arizona

  • Direct feedback from our community through conversations, outreach, and needs assessment data

  • Real-world constraints and opportunities unique to our state, our workforce, and our current moment in forensic nursing.

We intentionally examined our internal strengths and growing edges, alongside external opportunities and threats, to make sure AFNA’s priorities are grounded in reality, not wishful thinking.

This SWOT analysis now serves as a living framework, guiding our decisions, shaping our projects, and keeping us accountable to the nurses we exist to support. It reflects both where we stand today and where we’re building toward tomorrow.

What We Bring To The Table

We are built by the field, not above it.

AFNA was created by working forensic nurses who understand the clinical, emotional, and logistical realities of this work. Our credibility comes from lived experience, not theory.

We are community-centered by design.

Our mission is grounded in connection, mentorship, education, and emotional sustainability. We are not abstract or bureaucratic... we respond to what nurses actually need in practice.

We are agile and responsive.

We can identify a need and act on it quickly... whether that's access to training, mentorship, or burnout mitigation... we have the ability to do this without waiting for multi-layered approvals or national directives.

We operate with strategic intention.

We’ve completed a SWOT analysis and a community needs assessment early in our development to ensure our growth is aligned with real workforce needs, not assumptions. This gives us a strong foundation for sustainable planning.

We have strong leadership credibility and relational capital.

Our leadership brings clinical expertise, education experience, and statewide professional relationships that allow us to convene partners, open doors, and build trust across systems.
